Plaque develops when we eat and we do not have the possibility or habit of brushing our teeth. In particular, however, some foods increase plaque formation while others contribute to preventing or reducing plaque. Dental plaque, also called oral bacterial or biofilm plate, is an aggregate of germs that is deposited on the surfaces of the teeth, promoting common oral pathologies, such as caries and periodontal disease.

Plaque adheres mainly to inter-dental spaces, occlusal surfaces and enamel irregularities, or near the gums. Its presence alters the surface charge of the tooth, favoring bacterial adhesion. Microorganisms, if not removed, tend to harden over time, turning into tartar. The best way to avoid this is, of course, a correct and constant oral hygiene, a periodic check, but also some small tricks and natural remedies that can come in handy.

For example, some foods such as carbohydrates, especially starches and sugars such as pasta, crackers, rice, biscuits, but also milk, sugary drinks, sweets, candies, and raisins, contribute to increasing plaque; others, in particular, crunchy and raw vegetables such as celery, eaten as a snack or at the end of a meal, favor the mechanical removal of food residues and help the saliva to neutralize the acids in the mouth responsible for the appearance of the plaque. Cause of plaque development:

Going to counteract the salivary pH, in some cases, it is favorable to the increase of bacteria in the oral cavity. Sodium bicarbonate:

Sage:

Sage is an important plant for the health of our oral cavity. It can be used in different ways: as a decoction for the treatment of plaque, caries, and halitosis, or by using directly the leaves which, when rubbed on the teeth, take on a whitening action.

Tea tree oil:

Thanks to its numerous antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil can be used against the most common dental conditions, such as plaque, mouth ulcers, and abscesses. Just dilute about 2-3 drops in half a glass of water and rinse and gargle.
